My First Cover!!! and... a busy, busy life!

Hello friends! I've been nose to the grindstone for the past two weeks and between regular day to day life and my writing life, things have been on fire!

So without further ado... Presenting this wonderful cover by Mina Carter (http://mina-carter.com/) from Breathless Press. Due to be published and released January 25th, 2013. Literally all eyes are on "The Prize". (Sorry, cheesy, but couldn't help myself.)

As far as the process has gone. Things have been running smooth and I have returned 1st round edits to my lovely editor who is a genius! Waiting to hear back on some minor issues and should only have a round or two left.

Final edits are due to line editor by the end of November, so it will be a heck of a race to the finish line.

As an update, pre-edits are turned in today for "The Harvest Queen's Tutor" and I'll be expecting to get 1st round edits from that one soon as well.

Oh and somewhere in there, I have at least three more stories to write and ideas for about three more after those! Loving my life now, and loving how much fun I'm having. Keep in touch everyone! I expect to be having a few more Author Spotlights coming in soon as well!

Lots of love to all!

New Contract Offer!

"The Harvest Queen's Tutor" has been offered a contract.  Though this is my second offer of contract, I feel almost more excited over this offer than I was the first. The first offer of contract for "the Legionnaire's Prize" came July 16th and the feeling was almost surreal. So many things made me question why I was offered the contract. I know now it was just my own stupid self-doubt.

However, with my acceptance to another publishing house for a second story, I am just further validated that it wasn't just a fluke, I actually wrote something that two different companies, two different editors wanted. I won't just be a one hit wonder, but I can write for a living and actually enjoy the fruits of my labor.

I quit my job this year also, deciding that this year was the perfect year to see just how far I could actually go with my writing. My husband and I had planned carefully for it, but as school started and that first check didn't come in, I began to worry. When I hadn't heard anything from several of my submissions, I started browsing the employment pages of my local school board.

Two months had passed, and just as I was beginning to seriously contemplate applying for something, I received this news. Some people would see this as a sign, I think I will go on faith and also believe.

So, I've carefully read over the contract, compared it to my first, looked at what would be required of me and what would they would provide. After all that, I have signed and will be mailing the paper copy off by snail mail tomorrow.

So, now that I'm waiting for more edits to be sent to me, I will begin my next writing adventure and study even harder to get that next contract. Until then... happy reading and writing everyone!

Welcome back everyone!

Today's author spotlight is a fellow Breathless Press Author whose new book "Wildfire" just came out yesterday! A mix between Vampire's and Witches is a very seductive read indeed! But don't just take my word for it... Read on!

Yazmin Subha - Bio

Yazmin Subha is a busy mother of two children, whose husband has got used to her sitting tapping away on her laptop. By day she sits at her  job, all respectable and prim but by night she is imagining fiesty heroines and sexy alpha males.
She is a British author who grew up with a love of reading. Books created other places, times and worlds to visit. It was the desire to try to write that saw her pen her first short story as a teenager. But then everyday life got in the way and it was only recently that she began scribbling again. Encouraged, or rather dragged screaming and kicking by her crit group UCW she decided to ‘have a go’.

Her teenage dream is finally coming true.
You can find her on:

 "Wildfire" Blurb!

Braden has searched all his life for the one who will help him regain his humanity and give him absolute power. One bite and he knew Millie was the one he had been searching for. Millie, a fiery red head is the last one in the line of high born witches who would rather die than give herself to this vampire. After all he killed her mother for her blood as well, didn’t he?  But in a twist of fate Millie learns too late what the truth is. But will death be the only thing that unites them?

Brilliant! Want more? How about this tasty bite?

Excerpt!

She was slight, her curves meshing against him as though they belonged next to him. She continued to wriggle her lower half trying to get out of his arms. Only the friction awoke the fierce passion residing underneath his skin, and his cock hardened.
"Be still my wild fire, it will be easier." Braden spoke in a low tone directly into her ear. He caught the smell of her hair and could not resist burying his face in the mass of red curls. He groaned with need. Need for blood and need for her.
His voice soothed her anxiety and he felt her stop trying to get out of his arms. Her heart beat slowed down, eventually matching his own. Synchronized again, Braden kissed the back of her head. Enjoying the feel of her silky hair in his face, he bathed in her curls. Moving the curls away from her neck, he bent down, opened his mouth, and sucked the skin on her neck. She tasted of nectar, his very own personal brand.  His head screamed to bite, to taste that rich blood he had sipped last night in the car wash. But the man in him wanted her to be willing, to take her as she reached the height of orgasm as she had nearly done so in the car wash. This time he would be inside her, not just pleasuring her with his hands.
His mind came back to the present as he felt little shakes coming from her, and he realized she was crying.
Her little voice wobbled and she gave a sob, "don't hurt me, please."

Writing a Series?

I heard some encouraging news the other day, and thought I should share with you wonderful people. My editor, though she rejected the last story I submitted, was enthralled by the setting of the town. She gave me some good insight along with the rejection and I started thinking of all these wonderful stories that could take place.

Somewhat foolishly, I quickly replied what a genius she was and that I had tons of ideas that I could flesh out, I was on a high from the very specific advice she gave. Her reply was that she would love to see my town made into a series and couldn't wait to see the first one. GULP!

So for the past week I have been studying: authors that right series, reading series, and using Writer's Digest Tutorials on "The Ins and Outs of Writing a Series". I've mapped out my little town, and used the "Paint" computer program to give me a great visual reference.

Suddenly, I've lost all my ideas! DOUBLE GULP! Okay, maybe not all my ideas, but any that I thought were good to begin with. Has anyone ever had this problem?

I hope my writing muse comes and chats with me soon, or I'm going to have to yank her by the hair and tie her up beside me. :-)

As far as recent submissions, I currently have only one out and am looking at other avenues for my latest vampire creation. I've written all over the genre's in romance, except for suspense. Perhaps I'll try that one next.

Best of luck to everyone!

Author Spotlight! Karyn Gerrard!

Welcome Back!

I was so happy with all the response from my first Author Spotlight, I've decided to add an extra in for you wonderful readers.... Today we have Karyn Gerrard author of My Vampire Cover Model from Decadent Publishing. It is a paranormal/erotic romance with a Heat level of 4. And does is sizzle! So, with no further delay.... Please welcome Karyn Gerrard!

Karyn Gerrard -

Living in a small town in a corner of Ontario, Canada, I wile away my spare time writing, reviewing and reading romance. As long as I can avoid being hit by a runaway moose here in this wilderness paradise, I assume everything is golden. Originally from the east coast of Canada, I love to set my some of my stories in the Maritime Provinces~
Happily married for a long time to my own hero, a teacher that braves everything that is thrown at him. His encouragement keeps me moving forward.

BLURB: Life changed for Deanna Brooks the night she attended a book signing for her aunt’s best-selling paranormal romance series. There she met Burney ‘The Cover God’ Sheridan. The model for the series’ fictional vampire hero, Burn is beyond handsome and has an overabundance of Irish charm. He’s too good to be true.
Burn Sheridan, a man with scores of past lives, has a secret: he is a vampire. Meeting Deanna is agony because for the first time in over two hundred years, Burn experiences the rarest of vampiric needs—the mate-of-the-soul connection. Keeping people at a distance has been Burn's existence for centuries, but Deanna makes his pledge of staying detached impossible.

Many obstacles lie ahead and the biggest of all may be Burn himself. Can Deanna and Burn overcome them and find lasting love?

Sounds Amazing!  Now, how about just a little more to get you going!

EXCERPT :
Deanna tapped her sandaled foot in annoyance. She didn’t want to bother with the guy, but Janice insisted, bouncing on the balls of her feet in excitement as they advanced toward the table.
As they moved closer, the model’s masculinity became more potent. She could hear the slight lilt to his deep voice as he answered the ladies questions. His eyes crinkled sexily when he smiled. His teeth were perfectly shaped and a brilliant white.
Deanna glanced at her aunt’s table a few times, hoping to catch her eye, but Carol was busy working her crowd. While Deanna enjoyed an historical romance she’d never quite taken to the paranormal genre. Aunt Carol always mailed her advance copies, but she usually wound up giving them to Janice. She should’ve given the books a chance. Judging from the crowd, paranormal romance seemed popular. There was a steady stream of women coming and going.
Janice clutched her arm. “We’re next!”
Oh, yippie-friggin’-yay. Janice stood next to Burn. Damn, he is tall. A few inches under six-six, anyway, Deanna observed. Janice babbled nonsensical chatter while the model smiled, nodded, and signed a couple of her paperbacks.
Janice put her arm around the man’s trim waist. “Take our picture, Dean!”
Deanna raised the camera and looked up just as Burn’s searing gaze swept over her like a roll of white heat. God, his eyes had turned from black to silver again. Those special magic contacts were amazing. Holding out the camera, she clicked and hoped Janice was in the frame because she couldn’t tear her eyes away from “Sizzle” or “Burn” or whatever his name was. Deanna clicked another for good measure.
Janice took the camera and shoved her toward the leather-clad hunk. Her mouth went dry, and her insides fluttered. For God’s sake, he was only a model. Why was she so flustered?
She stepped next to him and glanced up. Oh hell yeah, very tall. He towered over her by at least a foot. His arm stretched out to clasp her shoulder, and he brought her in tight against his side. Solid, rock-hard muscle. Her insides began to churn in arousal.
“What’s your name, darlin’?”

Author Spotlight - Lorraine Nelson!

Welcome everyone!

I am ecstatic today as we gather for my first Author Spotlight here at Pen-The-Dream. And just how fitting is it that today's author is one that I have actually had the pleasure of knowing for about three years now.  Lorraine Nelson and I met on the Harlequin Community Boards and have kept in contact through the years.  Believe me when I tell you, this lady is definitely Penning Her Dreams. Today we are here to celebrate her newest release "Love on the Rocks" that was just launched yesterday August 10th, from Breathless Press.

Love on the Rocks  by Lorraine Nelson

Book Blurb:

When Sara attempts to save her daughter, she may also be escaping a fate worse than an abusive boyfriend…she may be running away from true love. The big question is: Which man will find her first?

Sara Compton, normally strong, independent, and fun-loving, is deeply distressed at having to abandon her baby, but she has neither money nor home and is hiding from an abusive and obsessive ex-boyfriend. The only way to keep her child safe is to give her up.

Anthony Jacobs has sworn off women due to a previous relationship gone sour. He finds the child, takes her home, and arranges care for her. When he places a public call for a nanny and a lovely woman arrives who seems to have a rapport with the abandoned baby, he hires her on the spot.

Sara is fraught with guilt and tension at the possibility of being found out. What will Anthony think of her if—or when—he finds out the truth? To add to her worries, trouble arises in the form of Sara’s ex-boyfriend, who appears on the scene with custody papers in hand. She makes a hasty escape, her daughter in tow, but in the process of avoiding the evil Elliot Saunders, is she leaving behind her one true love?

Not convinced yet? Try this little excerpt to wet your whistle...

"Since you slaved away to prepare such a feast, I insist on doing the washing up."

"What? No beeper?" Caroline chided.

"Not tonight. Guess I was too tired to arrange a get-a-way. I'll have to do better tomorrow," Anthony said with a wink and a chuckle.

Picking up Charity, she shot back, saying, "That figures. Oh, well, I'll enjoy tonight's respite and take our little princess upstairs to get her cleaned up. What do you think of that, sweetheart?"

"Fine with me," Anthony answered unexpectedly, then must have caught himself because he turned back to look at them as Caroline erupted into laughter. "Uh, you weren't talking to me just then, were you?" he asked sheepishly.

"No, but you sure do look good in red," she quipped, giggling at his embarrassment as she went on her way.

Anthony could hear her giggles as she went up the back stairs. To his astonishment, he had truly enjoyed thinking she'd called him 'Sweetheart,' and it had seemed so natural, too.

Oh, boy! Am I ever in big trouble, he told himself as he realized he'd fallen head over heels for the woman. What am I going to do now? How do I find out if she feels the same without bringing on a sexual harassment suit? Why did she have to be Charity's nanny...an employee...and a darn good one at that! He didn't want to scare her into running away. Think, Anthony! Think! He knew he'd figure out something. He'd just have to play it by ear and take a chance when the opportunity arose.

My two cents...

I just started reading this book a couple of hours ago, and I haven't been able to stop. The work itself is beautifully crafted, and emotionally compelling. You love the main heroine and the hero instantly, but my heart was captured by the beautiful baby.  I'm sure I'll be finishing this read soon, and I'd hate to know that others would miss out on this truly great love story.

I hope you've enjoyed our first author spotlight... Stay tuned... Tuesday August 14th we will have another fantastic writer... Karyn Gerrard from Decadent Publishing will be introducing her new book.

See you around! And keep Reading!
